Leyland, Bobby V Out
Mets.com reports that Jim Leyland and Bobby Valentine are both officially out of the managerial hunt. Leyland and Mets GM Omar Minaya came to a mutual understanding that this was not the right time for a union. Bobby V. indicated to Minaya via e-mail that his current team, the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan will not grant the Mets permission to speak with him.
This whole thing should play out within the week, with Willie Randolph or Rudy Jaramillo likely becoming the Mets next manager, barring a late run at Jim Tracy, who became a free agent yesterday.

Will not grant permision? What the hell is that? I thought it was IN HIS CONTRACT that he could leave for a managers position back in the majors.....? It seems to be a standard practice that you let your employees go to seek a position higher than they currently have, and believe me managing any major league team is a better opportunity....

I'll cast my vote for Jaramillo, haha. Seems to have the credentials as a coach so far, although not as a manager. Minaya said today he wants a manager who will not only be involved with the ML club but also be involved with the minor leaguers during fall league and Instructional play. I would definitely want Jaramillo working with all our young hitters.
