My New Site

Hey everybody. You've probably realized that I haven't been posting very frequently for the past few weeks. Well, the good news is that I've been working on a couple of new Mets projects that I think you're really going to like. I'm only going to tell you about one of them now; I'll tell you about the other one when it's finished and ready to go. I'll give you a clue, though: it involves the Mets and some of the best writers out there.

The first new project is a new blog called Amazin' Avenue. It's a member of the SportsBlogs family of sites, which is a great community of sites that is constantly expanding. The best part of the new blog is it offers everyone the ability to contribute to the dialog in ways you never could here at SaberMets.

SaberMets, in name only, will not see much action. Its spirit will live on at Amazin' Avenue, where most of my blogging will take place from now on. More good news: I'll actually be posting new content to Amazin' Avenue virtually every day! No more week-long (or more!) lulls in content anymore. So head on over there and check out the new digs. I will keep SaberMets around for the foreseeable future, as it provides a nice glimpse back at what came before.

Any questions, I can be reached at sabermets[at]gmail[dot]com, or AIM screenname SaberMets. See you all on the flip side.

Spring Training Open Thread

This is an open thread for anyone to talk about Spring Training thus far. What is everyone's favorite story or moment of the first eight days of the real Spring?

This Is Me Talking

Over the weekend we recorded the first of hopefully many conference calls for MetsDaily.com's "In The Studio" feature. Myself, along with Andrew from Chuck N Duck and Mike from The Metropolitans, were tossed some softball questions about the upcoming Mets season, and basically all said the same things.

It was fun, though, and I look forward to doing it again. You can hear the call directly by clicking this link, or just visit metsdaily.com to click the link there. I haven't listened to it myself because I'm horrified by the sound of my own voice, but definitely go check it out. I'm open to critique, so please feel free to submit advice on how I should make less of a fool out of myself next time. Cheers!

Beeeelllll-traaaaaaaaaannn

With the Mets currently projecting close to two million tickets sold by opening day, I thought I would point you all to this article by Aaron Gleeman back in May of 2004.

If you weren't already salivating at the thought of pitchers and catchers reporting in just under two weeks time, Aaron's breakdown of Carlos Beltran's consistent improvement in every important offensive measure should do the trick.

Phew!

This could have been the Mets. Of course, the O's are only paying $8.5 million this season for Sammy, who might hit .265/.350/.580 with 40 bombs in Baltimore. Oh well, better them than us.
